The Traversée de Paris in historic vehicles is organised by the Vincennes en Anciennes Club. This event is returning to the capital after last year's Paris Olympic Games. The Vincennes en Anciennes Club is the leading multi-make club of historic vehicles in France.
The route will cover around thirty kilometers, and will be entirely within Paris. This is a decision that will delight fans of historic vehicles who are so attached to the capital's heritage. For this winter Traversée 700 teams in vehicles over 30 years old are expected (including cars, motorcycles, motorbikes, bicycles, light utility vehicles, tractors and buses).
From the morning onwards there will be plenty of excitement on the southern forecourt of the Château de Vincennes. After getting to the start and taking a few photos the drivers then follow the route described in the road book (this will not be revealed until the morning of the start).
En route they will be able to meet the “P'tits Poulbots” and the priest who will bless the vehicles in Montmartre. All along the way crews will wave to the public, who are very fond of this particularly festive and photogenic event. It is not every day that you see so many old vehicles grouped together.
The Traversée de Paris is the largest gathering of mobile historic vehicles in France and includes some names which have long disappeared (such as Hotchkiss, De Dion-Bouton, Delage, Facel Vega, Deutsch and Bonnet, Terrot and Dollar etc). They will rub shoulders with 'youngtimers'. Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, Volkswagen, Mercedes and Jaguar will provide fine examples of the evolution of automobiles over the years.
The Renault buses from the 1930s which are driven by AMTUIR drivers will provide an amazing experience for their passengers, and delight astonished passers-by.
Around a hundred different makes will be represented including French, German, Italian, Swedish, English, American and Japanese vehicles - the line-up is never the same and there are always surprises in store. The vehicles are also all well restored and maintained, and among the oldest cars already registered are a 1921 Amilcar, a 1931 Ford Type A DeLuxe and a 1935 Talbot Baby Sport. As for tractors, a 1976 Renault 421 and a 1956 Champion Ténor will participate, as well as a 1955 Guzzi Zigolo motorcycle.
