This photo report relates to the Jaguar Mk 1, 2.4 / 3.4 event, which is personally hosted by Mr. Nigel Webb once every few years.
Nigel Webb owns a private museum dedicated mainly to racing driver Mike Hawthorn.
Mike was the first British F1 World Champion 1958 for Ferrari.
In January 1958, Mike was killed in the factory loaned MK 1 3.4 Saloon, reg. VDU 881, while racing his old friend on a public road. His lady at the time decided he had a black out, one of many because of his kidney position. One had already removed, and the second one was beginning to fail. That's why he retired after winning the world championship in 1958 in a Ferrari.
The Mk 1 event takes place in honor of Mike and participants pay a token amount for the upkeep of Mike's grave.
Nigel treats to an extensive buffet, with musical accompaniment and invites speakers who have played an important role for Jaguar, such as (now the late) Norman Dewis, test driver.
Norman shared fascinating anecdotes about Jaguar Mk 1 racing in the 1950s.
On average, approximately 50 Mk 1s are gathered, not only from England, but also from Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. This report covers the years 2014, 2015 and 2019.
