Regularity Tests, Driving Tests, An Evening Navigational Section, A Great Social Gathering. All based in one town.
2nd - 4th May 2003
Set in the heart of Flanders, this new event in the sporting calendar is a regularity rally run under FIA regulations - open for all cars, whatever the year of manufacture. Overall awards will go to cars manufactured up to 1977, with the "Ypres Cup" being awarded to the winners of the modern category from 1977 on.
The event, based around the town of Ieper, employs the convenient 'one hotel' format and offers a vibrant social scene. The event will take over the famous Market Platz, the home of many famous rallies, past and present. Event Dinner and Gala Presentation will be in the Cloth Hall, part of the town's historic heritage. Scrutineering - on Friday 2nd followed by a 'prologue' regularity and driving test to determine the starting order for Saturday. On the Friday we will also be hosting the Welcome Dinner in the Cloth Hall to get everyone into the spirit.
Two of the reasons why people go classic rallying are because they are passionate about the cherished car and because this branch of motor sport gives excellent value for money.
With this in mind, we decided to run an event tailored primarily to satisfy this criteria and with no question of it hanging on to the coat-tails of a ‘modern’ event. The wonderful rally territory of the Flanders countryside around Yprès seemed to be the ideal setting. AC Targa Florio, organisers of the famous 24 Hours of Yprès, agreed to support the rally. Also, offers came in with yet more support from the municipalities of Yprès itself and from surrounding towns. I can assure you that you will also see the social side of the area as well as its roads.
And we have our hosts in Belgium to thank for the creation of what we hope will be a wonderful weekend, a pleasant introduction to the joys of continental rallying, and an annual event.
